FAQ
Things people ask.
Most of these come up before booking. If yours isn't here, send a message and Amavin will answer it personally.
When is the best time to visit Yala?+
February through July is peak season — dry zone weather, high wildlife activity, best light. The park partially closes in September for the dry-season rest. Monsoon (October–January) is quieter, greener, and unpredictable, but rewarding for landscape work and patient travellers.
How likely am I to see a leopard?+
Yala's Block 1 holds the highest recorded leopard density on earth, but a sighting is never guaranteed. Our hit rate on full-day drives runs noticeably above the park average because of how we plan routes. We don't promise leopards. We promise time, attention, and the right conditions.
What should I bring?+
Long sleeves, closed shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and any camera gear you own. For serious photography, a 400mm lens is the minimum. Cooler clothing for the midday return.
Is this suitable for children?+
Children seven and up handle the drives well. Younger than that, the early start and long sits can be tough. Get in touch and we'll talk through your family before booking.
Do you offer private charters?+
Yes. A full jeep (up to six guests) can be chartered from USD 380 / LKR 115,000. Recommended if you're travelling with a photography focus or want flexibility on routing.
How does the pickup work?+
We pick up from any hotel within 20 km of the Yala park entrance. Earlier pickups arranged for travellers coming from Tissamaharama, Kataragama, or surrounding areas. Beyond that, we can recommend a transfer service.
What about food?+
Breakfast inside the park is included on full-day drives — usually a packed meal of local short-eats, fruit, and tea. Half-day drives include water and light snacks only.
Can I bring my own jeep or driver?+
No — Yala requires registered safari operators, and we work only with our own vehicles and trained drivers. This isn't bureaucracy; the experience depends on the team.
Do you handle group bookings?+
Up to two jeeps comfortably (12 guests). Larger groups: get in touch and we'll plan it together.
What's your cancellation policy?+
[PLACEHOLDER: confirm with Amavin. Suggested: full refund 7+ days out, 50% refund 3–7 days, no refund within 72 hours. Weather cancellations always refunded.]
